Purchasing more than one domain type, for example mydomain.com and mydomain.ie, helps to protect your brand name in search engine results and prevents anyone else using that name in your business space. You can "park" one domain on top of another so that they both display the same website.
.ie Domain
A .ie domain is the best choice for Irish companies doing business primarily in Ireland. Because registering a .ie domain requires proof of entitlement to the IE Domain Registry, having a .ie lends legitimacy to your online presence and will garner additional trust with your Irish customers. A .ie domain that's hosted on a server in Ireland will rank higher in search results than similar sites that don't have a .ie domain name.
Today you can also register names other than companies as a .ie domain. For example:

.com Domain
A .com domain name is probably the most popular domain type. Originally designed for a commercial enterprise trading internationally .com these days are used for just about anything with an international audience.
Because of the popularity of .com domains many are already taken. If you find this is the case then you might consider a .biz or .co domain as these are also designed for business use.
If you are lucky enough to find a .com that's available it would be worth securing the .co and .biz domains also to prevent someone else from operating in your namespace.
.org Domain
A .org domain is for use by any noncommercial organisation. This could include charities or clubs and societies; but can also be extended to any noncommercial activity including education, philanthropy, personal projects, arts and culture, community and civic activities, social and fraternal.
.net Domain
A .net domain is aimed at companies who offer network services. Often .net domains are used by Internet Service Providers, like DBA HOST, for services such as DNS (e.g. ns1.dbahost.net). However .net, like .com, is unrestricted and can be used for anything.
.info Domain
There are no restrictions on .info domains and these can be registered for any purpose. However they usually refer to sites where the conveyance of information is the primary focus rather than any commercial focus.
.co Domain
.co domains were introduced in 2010 to help supplement the over-subscribed .com top level domain (tld) name space. Businesses seeking to operate in a certain market; but finding the .com domain already taken, can register a .co domain instead. If you've registered a .com domain then we'd recommend you register a .co (and a .biz) as well to protect your branding.
.mobi Domain
The .mobi domain is aimed at web sites that are serving content specifically formatted for display on mobile devices. If you have a normal website and you create a version that's crafted for display on mobile phones then a .mobi domain name can give you a distinct advantage in search engine rankings over domains with other extensions (.com, .ie, .co etc).
.biz Domain
Similar to .co the .biz domain name was introduced to supplement the over-subscribed .com name space. If you find your desired .com domain is already taken then a .biz (or .co) domain may be a suitable alternative.
.me and .name Domains
Both the .me and .name domains are ideally positioned for people looking to create a unique, personalized website. .me domains are also useful for domain name "hacks" such as www.whydontyoutalkto.me.
.co.uk Domain
The .co.uk domain is intended for organisations who conduct business in the United Kingdom. These domains are available for a minimum registration period of 2 years.
.tv Domain
A .tv domain name provides:
- Instant association with video and rich media content.
- A greater chance of securing the domain name of your choice.
- A distinct, memorable web address.
- The perfect complement to a .com or .net web site.
Internet users are increasingly taking advantage of simple, easy to use tools that allow them to publish video content to the web. Hosting that content under a .tv domain makes perfect sense.
.eu Domain
These domains are aimed at organizations with a pan-European presence. It emphasizes the European identity of a company, organization, or individual and can be used standalone or to complement an existing website registered under an EU member state's own ccTLD.
.asia Domain
Asia is a key region of economic and technical growth. .asia is specifically focused on the Asia identity, but is versatile enough that it can be used by businesses, organization, or individuals across the region.
